History

The Battledore Cup is a long standing tradition of the SBL - this tournament has been running since the start of the league 1972.  Battledore comes from the original name for Badminton - Battledore and Shuttlecock. 

Format

The format of this tournament does change occasionally to encourage more players to participant.  

Group stage of 10 teams split into 2 groups with the top 2 finishers qualifying for the semi-final (playing teams in the other group) and then the winner will be decided with a final

This year mimics the league format for Combined division which consists of

• 2 mixed rubbers (switching partners within your team)
• 1 mixed doubles rubber (reduced from 2 due to previous year time constraints)
• 1 ladies doubles rubber
• 1 mens doubles rubber

Semi finals and finals may be played as a best of 3 rubber in each discipline if time allows

Entry

To enter the tournament, please email tournament@solihullbadmintonleague.co.uk with your team name, player list - 2 men, 2 ladies (juniors are welcome) and some details about what division/leagues you play in.  

We kindly ask that current or recent senior county players refrain from entering this one, as the aim is to keep the standard competitive but fun, not too serious!  Probably Coventry league divison 1 or Solihull division 1 standard and below.   The committee reserves the right to refuse your team entry and refund your payment.

There will be an entry fee payable in advance to secure your team's place, this will be as follows:

£5 per player (£20 total per team)

Once payment is made, and your team players are accepted, your place will be confirmed by email

Feather shuttles

Please bring along 1 or 2 tubes of feather shuttles per team, as each team will be expected to contribute shuttles in each match they play.   If you are unable to bring any feather shuttles, there will be tubes available to purchase on the day, but we have a limited capacity, so please let us know if possible.
